 TomTom has been around since the first GPS devices made it to the mainstream market. Though the car
GPS market is heavily competitive these days, TomTom is looking forward to push innovation and better
functionality to their new GPS devices. The TomTom XXL 540s is one of these devices and its large size is
attracting some attention.
Features
The TomTom XXL 540s is part of the XXL family which consists of devices that have 5-inch displays.
TomTom manages to pull this off while retaining the same curved design and it does not add much weight to it either
weighing just 7 ounces so it remains portable enough for you to carry around.
The larger display allows the built-in 3-D and 2-D graphical maps to look better and clearer than
ever. Some detailed surroundings can still be seen if you zoom in the map. Important signs are easier to see when
the device is mounted and the TomTom XXL 540s incorporates text-to-speech technologies so you can keep driving
without relying on the TomTom screen alone.
It also features the "Advanced Lane Guidance" feature which makes sure that you do not miss a turn
just because you are in the wrong lane. The view switches to 3-D mode as you enter a highway so it can bring up
some large arrow indicators to guide you as to what lane you must be in to stay on course. This feature combines
well with the "IQ Routes" technology which is an enhancement that better calculates driving routes using the
historical speed measurement statistics.
The TomTom XXL 540s is still a fairly new device as of August 2010 so you can expect some updated
maps covering US, Canada, and Mexico with over 7 million points of interest. Custom points can be added and shared
using the TomTom Map Share feature too.
